CHINHOYI — There was drama yesterday at Cooksey Hall in Chinhoyi as State security agents were ejected from an MDC-T provincial council meeting addressed by Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai.

The agents, who comprised police and members of the Central Intelligence Organisation, had apparently sneaked into the meeting and sat among the crowd.

MDC-T national organising secretary Nelson Chamisa ordered the State security agents to identify themselves and leave since they had not been invited.

Said Chamisa to applause: “Come out in the open. Why are you hiding when the Prime Minister whom you are supposed to give maximum VIP security is here in front while you hide among the crowd?”

Two female details and one male were ushered out of the venue.

However, one female police officer refused to leave the premises despite the jeering and heckling, while her colleagues filed out of the hall.

MDC-T provincial organiser Wilson Makanyaire had to restrain party security officers after they threatened to beat up the police officer.

She later walked out, but stood by the door, presumably eavesdropping while her colleagues were milling around the hall.

The meeting was also attended by MDC-T vice-president Thokozani Khupe, party chairman Lovemore Moyo, his deputy Morgan Komichi, women’s assembly chairperson Theresa Makone and deputy secretary-general Tapiwa Mashakada, among other senior officials.
