The in-form Bulawayo Golf Club golfer, who won the Chaferfly Hwange Open Golf Tournament last month, shot 66 at six-under par. Gondo made 32 on the front nine and 34 at the back nine to shoot 66 and take the lead.

“I have been playing well of late and the conditions of the course are the same as BGC (Bulawayo Golf Club), so that helped me. I had been practicing on this course as well. With the way I have been playing, I can win, but it is never easy.

“I am going to give it my best,” he said. On second spot was a two-tie by Ignatius Mketekete from Harare’s Chapman Golf and his clubmate Tich Musemburi, after shooting 69 at three-under par.

BGC golfer Phillip Tshuma followed on position four with 73 one-over par one, while Nyasha Muyambo, Tongoona Charamba and Day Muyambo all from Chapman, shot 75 three-over par. The competition continues today with the amateurs featuring in the last day of the competition.
