CHINHOYI councillors have rallied their support behind Maxwell Kaitano, currently Karoi town secretary, to fill the vacant town clerk’s post after full council last week endorsed a human resources committee report with a recommendation to appoint him to the position.

Finance and human resources committee chairman Councillor Richard Chafausipo told full council last Thursday his portfolio had given the thumbs-up to Kaitano, who came tops in recent selection interviews.

Names of three other aspirants have been forwarded for further vetting by the Local Government Board (LGB), which is vested with powers to make senior council appointments.

“The finance and human resources committee thus recommends, in order of performance, that the following be seconded to the LGB for further interviews: Maxwell Kaitano 353 points, Sherperd Kamba 348, Jacob Chikuruwo 335 and Tinos Marisa 335,” Chafausipo said.

Full council adopted the recommendations from the human resources committee.

This is the second round of interviews for the town clerk position. In the first round, incumbent Chinhoyi housing director Timothy Maregere had come first ahead of two others on June 21, but the LGB ordered the post be re-advertised after the five-member interview panel that assessed applicants lamented the “poor quality” and “flawed shortlisting” of candidates for interviews.

Makonde district administrator Webster Tembo has been in an acting capacity since the dismissal of Ezekiel Muringani in February for falsely claiming over $12 000 medical assistance when he was on full medical aid and dereliction of duty.
