TENDAI Mukambi scored a brace as Chicken Inn moved up to the third spot after thumping relegated city neighbours Quelaton, in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match played at Luveve Stadium yesterday.

Mukambi thrust Chicken Inn ahead in the 13th minute before grabbing the second 13 minutes later while Kudakwashe Mahachi scored the third in the 48th minute.

Chicken Inn finished with 10 men after substitute Tendai Ndoro was given marching orders by referee Brighton Malandule for a second bookable offence seven minutes before time.

Chicken Inn are now third on the log standings with 49 points from 28 games.

Monomotapa slipped down to fourth after losing  2-1 to Dynamos yesterday.Chicken Inn coach Adam Ndlovu was happy with the result.

“I am happy with the three points, but we should have scored more goals. My players were not hungry in front of goal. Our aim is to finish in the top eight. The Monomotapa loss to Dynamos has worked in our favour,” he said.

Mukambi had a chance to put Chicken Inn ahead as early as the fourth minute, but his shot went wide with only the goalkeeper to beat after being set up by Thomas Chimenya.

Chicken Inn continued to pile pressure and were duly rewarded nine minutes later after Zibusiso Sibanda failed to clear under challenge from Mukambi.

Mahachi could have added the second for Chicken Inn in the 17th minute, but was unlucky as his shot hit the post. Mukambi   was back to haunt the Quelaton defence with yet another goal from a Goredema cross in the 26th minute.

Mahachi’s hard work finally paid off as he scored the third for Chicken Inn three minutes from the breather from a solo run. Magaba was a beaten man.
