ZRP Raiders, Highlanders and Panthers are the women’s teams, while Railstars, Hawks and Support Unit will represent Zimbabwe in the men’s section for the competition expected to start on November 17.

ZVA secretary-general Ringisai Mapondera yesterday told NewsDay Sport that the six teams will be fighting for top spot against Zone V1 teams in the competition.

“Railstars performed well in last year’s competition, so we are still expecting a good showing from them. We expect them to go beyond the group stages. We hope all the other teams will also give a good account of themselves,” he said.

Railstars were then coached by Itsanang Abu-Basutu who crossed the floor to join Support Unit in the national league. Highlanders and ZRP Raiders were selected on the basis they are the current two top teams in the Bulawayo Volleyball Association Provincial League and in the national League while Panthers were top of mid-season rankings in the Harare Provincial League.

Zimbabwe will have to contend with countries like hosts Zambia, Namibia, South Africa, Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho, Mozambique and Malawi.
