Henrico Botes fired home the game’s only goal just 14 minutes in, taking “Dikwena” to a four-way tie for sixth place, while the “Brazilians” dropped into the relegation zone with four points from their opening seven Premier Soccer League (PSL) matches.

The result marked Sundowns’ sixth Premiership match without victory and will leave the pressure firmly on coach Johan Neeskens, whose future at the Tshwane giants is now surely in doubt.

Kaizer Chiefs were unable to convert any of their numerous chances, as they played out a goalless draw against Bloemfontein Celtic on Saturday evening.

“Amakhosi” dominated for much of the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium encounter, but some woeful finishing meant they would add just one point to their lead at the top of the PSL standings, which now sits at five.

Celtic, meanwhile, will be happy with a point as it follows on from their 1-0 victory over Orlando Pirates last time out and leaves the Free Staters level on points with the seventh-placed “Buccaneers”.

Katlego Mashego fired home late on in the second-half to hand Moroka Swallows a vital victory as they saw off Free State Stars 1-0.

The midfielder scored the game’s only goal from a free-kick 14 minutes from time, keeping the MTN8 champions’ PSL ambitions on track as they leap-frogged “Ea Lla Koto” into third in the standings with 12 points.

The result ended Stars’ six-match unbeaten and gave Swallows their second victory on the trot.

In other results, Ajax Capetown beat AmaZulu 1-0 and Wits beat Golden Arrows 1-0.
