GWERU — A 33-year-old man from Guinea Fowl in Gweru who lured a mentally ill woman into a kitchen hut before raping her has been remanded in custody to October 18 for trial.

Report by Stephen Chadenga

The suspect Douglas Banda denied the charge when he appeared before magistrate Kudakwashe Canady for initial remand.

The court heard that on September 26 this year, the 30-year-old woman wandered from the city and ended up at Plasworth shops in Guinea Fowl. The accused lured her to his neighbour’s kitchen hut and raped her once.

Banda was, however, caught in the act by the neighbour, James Jinjike, who reported the matter to the police, leading to Banda’s arrest.
