THE Econet Joshua Nkomo Classic Golf tournament that was set for Bulawayo Golf Club on October 11-13 has been postponed to the end of next month.

The competition is managed by the Golden Pilsener Zambezi Tour.

Zambezi Tour marketing and communications director Tendayi Gwatiringa confirmed: “Regrettably, the Econet Joshua Nkomo Classic originally scheduled for  Bulawayo Golf Club over the period October 11 to 13  2012 has once again had to be postponed to a date in late November 2012. This development follows consultations with the Joshua Nkomo Foundation who are the Tournament Promoters and Econet Wireless the lead Sponsors,” he said.

Last year’s competition was held at the Royal Harare Golf Club in Harare and attracted 52 professional golfers including the country’s top female golfer Claire Minter.

The Joshua Nkomo National Foundation was founded in 1999 with the aim of perpetuating the legacy of the late Dr Joshua Nkomo and is a non-profit and non-governmental organisation.

Backed by the Golden Pilsener Zambezi Tour, the Joshua Nkomo Golf Classic is destined to become one of the main attractions on the Zimbabwe golf calendar.

South Africa-based Zimbabwean professional golfer Ryan Cairns won last year’s event.
