A team set up by the  MDC-T party to investigate allegations of corruption and poor service delivery by its councillors running the Mutare City Council concluded its probe over the weekend. The findings are expected to be released any time soon.

Since the suspension of Mayor Brian James early this year by Local Government minister Ignatius Chombo, suspicion was rife certain corrupt MDC-T councillors had engineered James’ removal from office because he was stifling their underhand activities.

Although efforts to get a comment from Tose Wesley Sansole, who led the probe team were fruitless, insiders told NewsDay that the team had interviewed councillors, residents and provincial party members.

“We were called to give evidence at our provincial headquarters on several issues such as corruption, relationships with residents and our leadership,”  said one councillor who refused to be named. The probe will be the second this year following another one was led by Health Minister Henry Madzorera.
