A 23-year-old man from Kariangwe area got himself into trouble after he stabbed his beer-drinking mate with a screwdriver

BINGA – A 23-year-old man from Kariangwe area got himself into trouble after he took a jacket belonging to a beer-drinking mate without his consent and later stabbed him with a screwdriver when he disputed the action.

Report by Silas Nkala, Staff Reporter

Miyambo Mudimba pleaded guilty to an assault charge when he appeared before Binga resident magistrate Stephen Ndlovu last Friday. He was slapped with a 12-month jail term.

However, six months of the sentence were suspended on condition of good behaviour, while the remainder were also suspended on condition he performs 210 hours of community service at Kariangwe Primary School in Binga with effect from yesterday.

The court heard that on October 7 this year, Mudimba and the complainant, Tobias Muleya, were drinking traditionally brewed beer at Sunday Muleya’s homestead at Siansali in Binga. Mudimba took Muleya’s jacket and wore it without the owner’s consent. Muleya then questioned him over his actions and a quarrel ensued.

Mudimba suddenly produced a screwdriver and stabbed Muleya on the head, on the left hand and on his back. He sustained moderate injuries and made a report to the police, leading to Mudimba’s arrest.
