GWERU boxer Edmos Takawira is confident that he will win the non-title fight against reigning World Boxing Organisation (WBO) cruiserweight champion, Namibian Vikapita Meroro, when the two clash in Windhoek, Namibia, on Friday.

Reigning Zimbabwe welterweight champion Charles Manyuchi from Masvingo is also billed to fight Anthony Jaarman in the light middleweight category on the same day. Manyuchi and Takawira were expected to leave the country for Namibia on Monday with veteran coach Phillip Striker. Takawira yesterday told NewsDay Sport that he was not intimidated at the prospects of facing a champion.

“I am expecting a tough fight but I want to win it. The fight is going to be tough, but I am ready. I am not afraid of fighting him because I have been preparing for the fight.”

I might have ring-rust, but I have been preparing with the help from my mentor Langton “Schoolboy” Tinago,” he said.

Takawira’s last local fight was a 2010 light-heavyweight title loss against Wesley Macdade in Harare.
