Sports and Recreation Commission co-ordinator for the Province Sam Dzvimbu confirmed the development to NewsDay Sport yesterday.

“The preparations for the Yes Games have started and they are shaping up from district level. We are hoping that by November 2 districts should have done their competitions. We are then going to finalise our provincial teams in Bulawayo on November 17-18 before the regional competitions to be staged in Gweru. We have sub-committees who are working hard to ensure that national finals in Bulawayo will be a success,” he said.

Sporting disciplines on offer in the games are football (boys and girls) and volleyball (boys and girls), while the girls will also feature in netball.

Bulawayo Province will compete against Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South, Masvingo and Midlands in search of teams to represent the southern region in the finals. The competition is for children Under-15 category and teams are judged using the sports component, peer education and community projects.

Masvingo hosted the southern region provincial competitions last year, while the national finals were staged in Bindura.

The national competition is also used as a test on the strength and weakness for the province to host the Zimbabwe National Youth Games. The next edition of the Youth Games will be held in Bulawayo.
