Zanu PF sympathiser and Destiny for Africa Network founder Obadiah Musindo last week distributed 1 200 residential stands in Mutare in a vote-buying campaign aimed at reviving the party’s waning popularity in urban areas.

Report by Obey Manayiti In a move that could unsettle the country’s clergy and political parties, Musindo said only Zanu PF supporters would benefit from the stands under the housing scheme, highlighting the party’s grand strategy to lure back urban voters.

Zanu PF, which lost 20 of the 26 constituencies in Manicaland province in the 2008 elections to the MDC-T, is hoping to regain lost ground by doling out freebies to people ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

Musindo, who was speaking at the launch of the scheme set to benefit 5 000 prospective home owners, said: “I want to thank God for giving us President Robert Mugabe. God speaks to Zimbabwe through Mugabe. He is not a pastor, but a political leader who is walking in the path of David.

“Those who vote in the next general elections should use house addresses from these stands given to them by President Mugabe and that message should be clear. How many of you are ready to vote for Zanu PF? Everyone of you should bring at least five people to vote for Zanu PF in the next elections and make sure that we win.”
