NEVADA — Manny Pacquiao is set to receive over $100k from Floyd Mayweather (Jr) after a judge ordered the American to pay out legal fees to his rival.
Report by ESPN.co.uk Mayweather failed to attend a court-ordered deposition last year relating to a pending defamation action filed in 2009 by Pacquiao.
Pacquiao later filed a motion requesting attorney fees following Mayweather’s missed deposition.
As a result, federal judge Larry R Hicks has told Mayweather to pay Pacquiao’s attorney fees of $113 518,50, as well as $774,10 in court costs.
Hicks wrote: “The court notes that the award of attorney fees in this matter is a sanction against Mayweather’s obviously intentional decision not to appear for his court ordered deposition.
“This was a direct discovery violation after the court had entered a very clear order that the deposition go forward.”
Pacquiao is suing Mayweather for allegedly claiming that the Filipino used performance enhancing drugs.
Mayweather and Pacquiao, widely described as the two finest pound-for-pound boxers in the world, have been tipped to meet at some point in summer 2013.
