Premier Soccer League side Gunners have overcome their financial challenges and are looking forward to a fruitful outing when they make the trip to Ascot Stadium in Gweru for a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League tie against Hardbody on Sunday.

Report by Sports Correspondent Gunners have been facing serious financial challenges in the past three months with players failing to get their salaries.

The situation had been so bad that it appeared to be affecting the performance of the players.

But the coming in of co-sponsor, businessman Lovemore Kurotwi, has seen a sharp improvement in the financial situation at the club.

Club spokesman Stanley Makombe said the club was now in a mood to survive relegation as the welfare of players had now improved significantly.

“The financial situation of the club has improved significantly since the coming in of co-sponsor Lovemore Kurotwi. Our operating budget had not been enough to sustain the team,” said Makombe.

“We have been facing serious financial challenges in the past three months. Now players are having their salaries transferred into their bank accounts and are now focusing on surviving relegation. We are confident of winning against Hardbody.”

Coach Moses Chunga will be looking to register his first win in a league game since he returned to the Gunners’ bench.

The nomadic coach goes into the match with confidence high after his charges booted out Adam Ndlovu’s Chicken Inn following a 3-2 victoty in the Mbada Diamonds Cup first round clash at Pelandaba in Gwanda.

Both teams will be fighting for survival as they are at the basement of the table with only nine matches remaining before the season ends.

They both have 18 points from 21 matches, but Gunners are on 13th position from the bottom, while Hardbody are a rung below because of an inferior goal difference.

But Hardbody have been  playing well since the appointment of coach Godfrey Tamirepi despite losing 2-1 to Caps United in their last outing at the National Sports Stadium.
