Dominican Convent will represent Bulawayo Province in the Top Schools National Basketball Tournament set for Peterhouse College in Marondera after winning the National Association of Secondary Heads (Nash) qualifiers at Northlea High School on Saturday.

Report by Sports Reporter Convent beat Nkulumane 100-90 in the final of the competition. A lot will be expected in this year’s competition, which runs from Friday to Sunday, from Convent as the school represented the province in last year’s competition which was won by Roosevelt Girls’ High School.

Convent was selected to represent the province in the national finals after beating Girls College 46-21 in the Top Schools Qualifier at Milton High School last year.

To get to this year’s finals, Convent beat Northlea 48-25, while Nkulumane beat Ihlathi 40-36 in the semi-finals.

In the group stages, Convent beat Masotsha 58-14, before edging Founders 63-15 and wrapped up the group with a 66-42 victory over Ihlathi. Nkulumane emerged top in Group A after dismissing Northlea and Sizane 48-29 and 54-12. Rukudzo Matsekwa from Convent was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player and was the top scorer with 85 points.

Ihlathi claimed the third spot after beating Northlea 20-11 in the third place play-offs.

Last year’s runners up Girls College did not take part in this year’s competition which also featured Masotsha.
