JOHANNESBURG — The South African Football Association (Safa) is still negotiating for a second friendly for Bafana Bafana next month, but has not yet tied down a match.

Report by Reuters For the moment, the national team has an away game against Poland in the provincial town of Bydgoszcz on October 12.

But according to the Fifa co-ordinated calendar, the team also has the opportunity to play a second international four days later.

Sources said a game against Saudi Arabia on October 16 was being discussed, but had not been fixed. The possibility of playing at a neutral venue in Europe was on the table.

At first there were plans for a match in the Middle East on the way back from Poland.

However, Safa decided it wanted to swap the date of October 16 with the PSL and move the league fixtures from December forward to give Bafana more time in camp ahead of January’s Africa Cup of Nations finals.

But that idea was declared not workable and shelved last week.

Safa is running out of options. There are only three European countries available for a match on October 16 as most are in the throes of World Cup qualification.

But Armenia, Finland or Malta do not have the financial muscle to help offset the costs for cash-strapped Safa.
