After winning the boys’ Under-16 Copa Coca-Cola Championships with Mzingwane High School over Pamushana in the final of the football competition last month, coach Bekezela Mavundla will guide the Copa Coca-Cola Dream Team set for a training camp in South Africa later this month.

The finals of the competition were held in Victoria Falls where Vainona from Harare retained their girls’ Under-17 title after beating Masvingo’s Chidyamakono 2-0.

The training camp will be held from August 26 to September 8 where the players will also compete with players from other countries. Mavundla, a teacher at Mzingwane yesterday told NewsDay Sport that he was excited by the challenge.

“I am happy that I have been selected to lead the team in South Africa. I was selected because of my achievement of winning the Copa Coca-Cola Cup. The statistics show that we came first out of 3 000 schools that took part, which was good,” he said.

“It is a great honour for me to coach the team. We played very well in the competition and our type of football was very entertaining. We only conceded one goal against Phakamani in the provincial championships throughout the competition. The team was disciplined.”

“The competition was an eye-opener for me because I am now aiming at getting Level Two and Three coaching certificates before the end of the year.”
