The Welshman Ncube-led MDC on Sunday caused a stir in Bulawayo when it launched a new campaign tool — a huge hot air balloon that was flying over its Bulawayo office.

The green balloon was hoisted on Saturday at midnight and was flying about 100 metres high. However, by yesterday morning it had been cut off by unknown people.

On Sunday, a crowd gathered at the party’s offices in Bulawayo shooting pictures and inquiring about the balloon which had the MDC symbols.

MDC spokesperson Nhlanhla Dube yesterday told NewsDay in a telephone interview from St Joseph’s, Matobo, that the balloon was missing.

“This morning we heard from St Joseph’s that the string holding the balloon has been cut off.

“However, we are fully convinced that it was the work of any of our political opponents who are scared of innovation and competition.

“However, that will not put an end to our innovative communication skills,” Dube said . He said the MDC would not be deterred by the incident and would launch more innovative ideas countrywide.

“We assure our detractors that we will be back in the skies and this time we will be in all the towns and cities,” Dube said.

“No one can kill innovation, we will out-think them and out-communicate them. We have the tools.”
