The Zimbabwe Republic Police has reassigned some provincial commanders with Matabeleland South police chief, Senior Assistant Commissioner Billy Mashonga, being transferred to Police General Headquarters (PGHQ) in Harare.

Mashonga was moved to Matabeleland South in 2009 replacing Senior Assistant Commissioner Norman Sibanda, who is now heading Matabeleland North.

Mashonga will be the Chief of Staff in charge of crime at the PGHQ. He has been replaced by Senior Assistant Commissioner Munorwei Matutu who was the officer commanding police in Manicaland Province.

This is the second transfer of a provincial commander in Matabeleland following the re-assigning of Senior Assistant Commissioner Edmore Veterai from Matabeleland North province in March.

Police national spokesperson Superintendent Andrew Phiri said the reassignments were normal.
