GWERU — Mines minister Obert Mpofu is set to officially open this year’s edition of the Midlands Agricultural Show, where Shurugwi-based platinum miner Unki Mine is set to exhibit its activities for the first time, on Friday.

Pascal Muringani, the president of the show, yesterday told journalists that 140 exhibitors had so far taken up stands compared to 120 exhibitors who participated at last year’s showcase.

“Preparations are at an advanced stage and 140 organisations have so far taken up stands and we expect the number to increase,” he said.

“For the first time in the history of the Midlands show, we are going to have a mining company, Unki Mine exhibiting.

“As you know, Midlands is the hub of mining and we felt it was important that the minister of Mines Obert Mpofu grace the occasion as guest speaker.”
