Some workers at the National University of Science and Technology (Nust) were sent home last weekend after the institution ran out of running water as a result of a burst pipe.
Nust spokesperson Felix Moyo confirmed the development, adding they had since engaged plumbers to rectify the problem.
“Nust has not closed, but we have sent some of the workers in the other sections of the university away.
“This has been as a result of the pipe burst. It is a health hazard to have about 1 200 workers sharing few water facilities,” he said.
“It was a big pipe burst and because Nust was built in such a way that the main feeder pipe connects to all the areas, so if it bursts, some parts are affected.
“As the plumbers are working on repairing the pipe, we hope that workers will soon be back at work.”
