Police in Harare yesterday recovered the body of a businessman identified as Allan Banks from the boot of his car in the Avenues area, five days after he went missing.

Police spokesperson James Sabau said the body was already decomposing.

“Banks went missing on Wednesday and was last seen at his Rhodesville shop. A police report was made after efforts to find him failed,” Sabau said. According to Sabau, passersby detected a stench from the car and alerted police.

Police detectives then opened the boot of the car and recovered Banks’ body with the head covered in a plastic bag.

“Relatives of Banks were called and they brought spare keys for the vehicle and we found him in the boot, dead and his head covered by a plastic bag,” Sabau said.

He said the body had been taken to the mortuary at Parirenyatwa Hospital while police continued with investigations into a suspected murder case.

“We call upon people with information relating to the callous murder of Banks to approach the police CID homicide or simply write a note and deposit it in our suggestion boxes,” Sabau said.

“Meanwhile, we also advise people with businesses not to have a routine time-table of collecting money from their shops. One’s time-table should not be easily read to avoid a situation where one is trailed by robbers,” he said.
