Popular reggae and dancehall stars Winky D and Mic Inity will next month tour the United Kingdom where they are scheduled to perform at the Wembley Arena, London during the Africa Unplugged concert on August 27.

The concert is set to attract 20 of Africa’s best acts from 15 countries and is likely to be one of the biggest events in the UK this year.

This is not Winky D’s first appearance in the UK, as he has toured Europe several times and at one time performed at the annual UK festival. For Mic Inity this should be the perfect slot to make an impression as he will be making his first tour following the release of his debut album titled Freedom.

Both artists are expected to travel with their full bands. Jonathan Banda, Winky D’s manager confirmed the schedule, but said they were yet to conclude negotiations for a contract. Organisers of the concert, 233 Connect, said the bash was aimed at addressing some of Africa’s challenges.

“This platform is aimed, at raising awareness on the plight of most Africa’s worrying challenges including poverty, malaria, war, genocide, HIV and Aids and lack of access to portable drinking water.

“A substantial portion of proceeds from the concert will be channelled to support and address all these challenges,” the organisers said. The two main non-profit making organisations that are entitled to benefit from the Africa Unplugged concert include War Child and Save the Congo.

War Child is an organisation dedicated to protecting children living in some of the world’s most dangerous countries affected by war. Save the Congo was formed by a team of Congolese students, and aims at the restoration of human rights worldwide.

The event will be presented by comedian Eddie Kadi and will feature the South African pair of Zahara and Zakes Bantwini.

Also expected to perform at the festival are Angola’s Carbo Snoop, Congo’s Fally Ipupa, Femi Kuti, 2face, Flavour and Iyanya from Nigeria, together with Ugandan star Chameleon and Ghanaian’s R 2Bees and Sarkodie.
