BANKET — A Mutorashanga man will forever rue the day he attempted to force his 22-year-old son to take a concoction of traditional herbs after the son went berserk and stabbed him twice on the back before kniving two others.

The accused, Nellias Munaghi, on Tuesday appeared before magistrate Ngoni Nduna at the Banket circuit court facing assault charges.

According to the State on June 27 around 7pm at Ayshire Mine, the complainant, 52-year-old Daniel Munaghi, approached his son with the intention of giving him juju whose purpose was not disclosed in State papers.

But the father’s proposal incensed Nellias who then armed himself with a knife and stabbed his father twice on the back. The father sustained serious injuries as a result of the attack, the court heard.

An eyewitness, Norman Matope, tried to restrain Nellias resulting in him being stabbed once in the neck sustaining serious injuries. Following the attack, Nellias tried to flee but was apprehended by a security guard, Shepherd Chitauneka, who was also stabbed once on the knee.

Nellias was sentenced to an effective nine months’ imprisonment.

Morris Mlilo prosecuted.
