BINGA — A 61-year-old man from Gwagwa village in Lusulu has been sentenced to six months in jail for stabbing his 20-year-old son, accusing him of being a burden to him and eating his siblings’ food while they were at school.

Robert Mudimba pleaded guilty to assault charges when he appeared before Binga resident magistrate Stephen Ndlovu on Monday.

The magistrate convicted and sentenced him to 12 months in jail before suspending six months for five years on condition of good behaviour.

The court heard that on June 7 this year, Mudimba arrived at his home at around 2pm from a beer drink and found his son Mephias Mudimba (20) at home. He ordered Mephias to leave the homestead accusing him of becoming a burden to him.

Mudimba said he was tired of Mephias’ behaviour and further accused him of eating his siblings’ food.

An altercation ensued before Mudimba produced a knife and stabbed Mephias on the shoulder.

Mephias was taken to Binga District Hospital for treatment where a medical report however indicated he was not in danger as he sustained moderate injuries.

A report made to the police led to his father’s arrest.
