Zimbabwe’s headline consumer inflation rate was little changed at 4,02 % year-on-year in May from 4,03 % in April, the Zimbabwe National Statistical Agency said on Monday.

On a month-on-month basis, inflation was at 0,07 % in May compared with April’s 0,19 %, the statistics agency said.

Finance minister Tendai Biti, during his State of the Economy presentation, projected that inflation would average 5% this year against the backdrop of higher oil and global food prices.

“In the outlook, the underperformance of the agricultural sector is expected to exert more pressure on food inflation,” he said.
