Struggling Premiership football side Quelaton have engaged former Chicken Inn coach Philani “Beefy” Ncube to head the technical team hoping the experienced gaffer will turn the fortunes of the club.

Quelaton director Tawanda Ruzive yesterday confirmed to NewsDay Sport that Beefy had become the head coach with immediate effect. In his first assignment, Ncube will be in charge of Quelaton in their home match against Hardbody on June 24 in Week 11.

“Philani Ncube is now the head coach at Quelaton and that is with immediate effect. We hope that he will change the fortunes of the club as we bank on his Premiership experience,” Ruzive said.

Ncube will be deputised by Farai Sibanda, who has been at the helm in an acting capacity after Quelaton parted ways with Thulani Sibanda.

Thulani threw in the towel after Quelaton registered four losses in their start in the Premiership, quitting the club after losing 3-0 to former champions Motor Action.

He had lost 4-3 to Hwange at the Colliery, 3-0 to Shabanie Mine at Luveve and 2-0 to Chicken Inn at the same venue.

Farai went on to win two consecutive matches beating Harare City 1-0 and Gunners by the same scoreline before losing three times to Caps United, Monomotapa and FC Platinum and drawing 1-1 with Blue Rangers.

Beefy, who scooped the Coach of the Year Award with Njube Sundowns in 2008, took Chicken Inn to the Premiership last year after winning the Zifa Southern Region Division One League in 2010. He was however sacked at the end of the season last year with only three matches remaining after losing 2-1 to a 10-man Black Mambas at home Luveve Stadium.

He was replaced by Adam “Adamski” Ndlovu, who is still in charge at the fast foods outlet team.
