The Zimbabwe Volleyball Association invitation for teams to play in the women’s national league has attracted four teams out of the six required, with the deadline set for tomorrow.

League chairman Brian Manuel confirmed the development to NewsDay Sport yesterday. “We are hopeful that we will get the remaining teams before deadline. The invitation for interested clubs ends on Friday (tomorrow). We also need two more teams in the men’s section,” he said. Highlanders, Midlands State University, ZRP Raiders (Bulawayo) and Junior Stars from Harare are the four women’s team that have shown interest in playing in the league.

In the men’s section, defending national league champions Railstars, Hawks, Kutama Old Boys’ Association and Stanbic Thunder, were the top four teams last year and are guaranteed of slots in the league.

However, Support Unit have gained an automatic slot as Koba and Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe are reported to be now defunct. Manuel said they were expecting the league to have stiff competition as successful teams will represent Zimbabwe in other regional competitions.
