Harare provincial magistrate Tendai Mahwe yesterday issued a warrant of arrest for a private medical institution’s former general manager Blessing Gama after he failed to appear in court on charges of masquerading as a gynaecologist.

Gama is a former general manager of Christian Health Medical Aid Society.

According to the State, Gama allegedly secured employment at the medical institution as a gynaecologist without requisite qualifications and was expected to earn more than $6 000 per month.

But his cover was blown when the institution’s chief executive officer Taitai Diana Changamire doubted his performance and approached the Medical and Dental Practitioners’ Council of Zimbabwe (MDPCZ) to establish his credentials.

It is alleged Changamire was informed by an employee of the MDPCZ, identified in court papers as Dr Tapfumaneyi, that Gama was neither a medical practitioner nor a gynaecologist.

It is reported that sometime in December last year, Gama submitted his curriculum vitae to the Christian Health Medical Aid Society claiming he was a qualified gynaecologist.

His contract was, however, terminated on January 13 this year when the authorities started doubting his performance.
