Gweru Sports Club (GSC) is optimistic they will wake up from the deep slumber in the Lion Larger National Rugby League when they take fellow strugglers Old Miltonians at Hartsfield Ground on Saturday.

The Gweru team is having a turbulent run where they have lost their last three matches, with two of them at home.

After starting the season on a fair note with a 15-14 win over Western Panthers, GSC went on to lose 79-24 away at Old Hararians before a home setback of 35-7 against Matabeleland Warriors which was followed by last weekend’s 62-7 trouncing by Harare Sports Club, again on home turf.

But Saturday’s fixture could be promising to them considering their opponents Old Miltonians are also enduring a torrid season.

The Bulawayo squad recorded their first win of the season after beating equally struggling Airforce 29-3 at Hartsfield Ground.

GSC coach Zwelonke Mloiswa felt it was high time they recovered.

“We are still in the first round of the season so there is still time for us to recover. Of all the games we have lost, we have taken it into our stride as a learning curve. We have seen our shortcomings and we will work on them and try to get back on our feet in the second half of the season. I realised the teams we have faced so far had better forwards. Now we know what to expect from them when we meet them again,” said Mloiswa.

GSC will be banking on Cheetahs winger Kelvin Magunje as well as Charles Gwanzura and Joseph Mudzingwa, who have always been outstanding for them.
