Parirenyatwa Hospital mortuary attendant, Tapiwa Goto, appeared in court on Monday facing charges of raping a nurse aid inside the morgue.

Goto (26) denied the rape charge when he appeared before Harare regional magistrate Memory Chigwaza.

But the victim told the court Goto met her along the hospital corridor on October 1 last year and he dragged her into his office located in the morgue.

Goto then allegedly fondled her breasts and raped her once.

The court heard Goto was, however, interrupted by his friend, Stan Chikonde, who knocked on the mortuary door.

Goto stopped abusing her and dressed himself up, but could not contain his alleged victim who kept crying, threatening to report him to the matron.

Three days later, Goto’s wife allegedly telephoned the woman and requested that they meet and resolve the matter without the involvement of hospital officials, but the meeting never materialised.

The court is expected to deliver judgment on the matter on Friday.

Tinashe Kanyemba prosecuted.
