MASVINGO — Three more people died in two separate road accidents in Masvingo during the Independence holiday, police confirmed yesterday. Acting provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Charity Mazula said two people died along the Masvingo-Mbalabala road when the driver failed to give way and rammed into the trailer of a haulage truck at around 5:30pm. “Siyaniso Chinota Nyoni (34), who was driving a Nissan single cab truck headed for Masvingo, rammed into a trailer of a haulage truck at the 2km peg after he failed to stop and give way. He died on the spot.

“There were three passengers on board and another passenger, Alexander Ncube (44), also died on the spot as they were trapped in the wreckage,” Mazula said, adding two other passengers –Tinovonga Nyoni (10) and Mathew Nyoni (19) sustained serious injuries and were admitted at Masvingo General Hospital. In another accident at the 39km peg along the same road, Brev Shoko, who was driving a Toyota Chaser, also died after colliding head on with a Toyota Hilux driven by Memory Magwizi. “The deceased was driving towards Mashava at around 4:30pm and he lost control of the car and veered off the road before wrestling the car back onto the road. Unfortunately in the process, he encroached into the lane of oncoming traffic leading to a head-on collision. He died upon admission at Gaths Mine clinic while Magwizi sustained serious injuries and is being treated at Masvingo General Hopsital,” Mazula said.
