KARIBA — A 26-year-old woman, Lissi Chamarenga, was electrocuted after stepping on a live electricity cable near Vhundu-Vay Lodge in Kariba last week.

Chamarenga, of Chipadze township in Bindura, was in the company of Mationesa Katsande (25) and Penny Mupati (30) when tragedy struck on April 4 around 7pm, police said.

Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara said the trio intended to take a boat to an island on Lake Kariba where Chamarenga’s relatives lived.

“The three were proceeding to Charara Harbour. As they passed Vhundu-Vay Lodge, the now deceased, who was leading the team, stepped on a live power cable and was electrocuted. A worker at the lodge quickly switch off the power in a bid to save the woman,” said Mabgweazara.
