The MDC-T United States chapter said preparations for Independence Day celebrations that will be attended by the party’s organising secretary Nelson Chamisa and women’s assembly chairperson Theresa Makone are at an advanced stage.

The Chapter yesterday said celebrations would not be on April 18, the country’s official Independence Day, but on April 21, “in line with the 21st protests”.

The protests are carried out on the 21st of every month at various South African embassies globally to pressure facilitator Jacob Zuma to ensure Zanu PF implements all aspects of the Global Political Agreement with speed.

The party said it would host a fundraising dinner in Washington DC, to be followed by a night of dance and music to commemorate Zimbabwe’s Independence.

“On Saturday April 22 in the morning, we will be having a protest march in the afternoon at the SA embassy on Massachusetts Avenue in support of the 21st Movement’s Free Zimbabwe Global Protest,” MDC-T said.

“This will see the MDC conducting the fourth round of the Free Zimbabwe 21st global protests which were started in January this year in a move to forward petitions to South African diplomats in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Netherlands, Sweden, Ireland and the South African government in Pretoria.”
