Harare Province clinched the men and women’s Basketball Union of Zimbabwe inter-provincial championships played in Mutare at the weekend.

The tournament saw Harare men and women finish top of their standings with 10 points as the games were played in a round- robin format.

In their first game, Harare ran riot and routed Manicaland Under -22 105-50.

They faced stiff challenge from Bulawayo in their second encounter, but again proved to be the best team as they won 56-51. Manicaland Seniors walloped Mashonaland Central 121-20 in their first game before they dismissed Manicaland Under-22 71-49. They handed Bulawayo their second defeat of the tournament in a 55-43 victory.

Bulawayo came third after beating Mashonaland Central 67-19 and beat Manicaland Under-22 72-45.

Mashonaland Central failed to put up a strong challenge as they lost all their games. They were thumped 121-20 by Mashonaland Central, lost 81-32 to Manicaland Under-22 before they were shut out 67-19 by Bulawayo.

In the women’s section Harare walloped Manicaland 82-7 in their first encounter. Bulawayo Under-22 and Bulawayo Seniors all fell victim to Harare with a 47-24 and 73-55 defeat.

Bulawayo Seniors came second in the competition despite losing to Harare. They beat the Under-22 team 58-13 before they wrapped up the campaign winning 101-10 against Manicaland.
