Former champions Monomotapa fought back from a goal down to clinch maximum points against Buffaloes in their opening match of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League at Sakubva Stadium yesterday.

After going down after just 20 seconds through Elton Dzumbunu probably the fastest goal on the opening weekend Monomotapa staged a comeback with a Russell Madamombe brace.

Kudakwashe Musharu had pulled the visitors level in the 58th minute to ignite the fightback.

Monomotapa coach Taurai Mangwiro said he was very happy with the performance of his players in the second half.

l am very happy with the fightback. I think my players played a good game in the second half and they deserve the win. The win will actually lift the morale of the players in the coming matches, he said.

Madamombe was on target from the centre after Monomotapa goalkeeper Jorum Muchambo failed to collect a cross from midfielder Phineas Bhamusi.

After the breather, Monomotapa were a far much better side and were eventually rewarded in the 58th minute from the boot of Musharu.

With the match heading for a draw, Madamombe scored in injury time from a free-kick just to silence Buffaloes supporters. A minute later Musharu scored from close range to seal the comeback.
