Freddy Gwala jets in tonight

South African musician Freddy Gwala is expected in the country tonight ahead of his three shows in Harare and Gweru.

The Amadamara hitmaker will hold his first show at City Sports Bar in the capital tomorrow before travelling to Gweru for a show at Midlands Hotel on Saturday. His last gig will be a family show at Richwood Sports Club in Mabelreign on Sunday.

Show organiser Biggie Chinoperekwei said Gwala would be accompanied by a full band adding the musician was happy to have another chance to perform for his fans in Zimbabwe.

“Freddy (Gwala) is looking forward to the show. He said he is in love with Zimbabwe since fans had supported him in his previous visits here. He is expecting a good tour,” said Chinoperekwei.

“We have made sure that everything will be smooth. People know Freddy for his exciting yesteryear hits and I am confident mature fans will have an exciting journey down memory lane at all the three shows.”

At his first show, the musician will share the stage with Romeo Gasa while at Richwood he will perform with Oliver Mtukudzi. Fast-rising local musician Jah Prayzah will feature at both shows.
Gasa is a rising sungura star who has entertained patrons at City Sports Bar on several occasions and would be a suitable curain-raiser for Gwala. Jah Prayzah is riding high with songs Gochi Gochi, Sungano and Sorry Mama.

Mtukudzi, who is in the same generation with Gwala, is likely to ensure his counterpart gets a warm reception at Richwood Sports Club when he gets on stage ahead of the South African.

Gwala, who has released 12 albums, gained popularity in the country through hits that include Ngixoleleni and Amadamara. He plays zumba music, which he originated by fusing soul and disco.
