Miss Zim Environment set for Friday

BULAWAYO — The long-awaited Miss Zimbabwe Environment Bulawayo regional beauty pageant will take place at a local restaurant on Friday.

Founder of the pageant and designer Briaton Takundwa said a bevy of 20 beauty queens would contest for the crown.

The pageant, whose national finals will be held in December, is set to spread its wings to all the provinces.

“The idea is to crown ambassadors who will be able to assist in the fight to spread environmental awareness around the country,” said Takundwa.
Takundwa said several renowned artistes, including Harare-based musician Pax Gomo and Artists for Environment in Zimbabwe, will grace the event.

“We will be having local talent with upcoming musicians like Rudo Nyoni, who will be the opening act at the pageant, with Xolani Ndlovu from the Conquerors, African Tribe and Simunye Simunye Dance Group also taking to the stage. There will also be a number of DJs to grace the event.”

The event, expected to kick off at 7pm, will have a stylish green carpet reception of guests. To add fun to the event, there will be prizes for the best and worst dressed guests.

“Green4lyf Fashion officials will be on the lookout for the best and worst dressed guests. In addition, we are set to have a designers’ fashion exhibition where designers will be showcasing clothes designed from recycled material in a move to promote re-use of disposed material,” said Takundwa.

Since the beginning of the year, the organisers and models have been involved in a variety of environmental activities such as anti-litter campaigns and tree planting at some of the schools in the city.

The pageantry is being held under the theme “Forestry for People”.
