The National Darts Association of Zimbabwe (NDAZ) will next week hold the national Easter tournament, an event that will be used to select players to represent the country at the Zone VI darts Championships to be held in South Africa later this year.

The three-day tournament, which starts on April 6, will be staged at Hillside Teachers College in Bulawayo. NDAZ president Meynard Moyo yesterday said eight provinces had already confirmed their participation.

We expect competition to be very tough since this tournament will determine who will qualify for the main trials for the Zone VI Darts Championships to be held in Pretoria, South Africa, from August 28 to September 2 2012. Preparations for the tournament are at an advanced stage.

Eight provinces Bulawayo, Matabeleland South, Midlands, Masvingo, Harare, Manicaland, Mashonaland West and Mashonaland East have confirmed participation. So far we have 17 men and 10 ladies teams though we expect more teams to register, said Moyo.

He said each province was allowed to field three men and two womens teams with the host province fielding four men and three womens teams.

For one to be considered for the main trials, you have to be ranked in the top fifteen in the mens category and top ten in the womens category. These will then eliminate each other to be in the national team. We are requesting the darts fraternity and the community in Bulawayo to come and support us, added Moyo.
