One of Dynamos’ key players, Guthrie Zhokinyi, has been ruled out of the African Champions League first round, first leg football match against Liga Maculmana of Mozambique on Saturday. The team leaves the country today.

The Algerian ghost — where Dynamos cried foul over the manner in which their Caf Champions League match against MC Algiers was handled last year — came back to haunt them after Zhokinyi was suspended for four matches.

In that forgettable match for Dynamos, the Harare giants who were leading 4-1 from the first leg, were hammered 3-0 with match day referee Fahim Omar allegedly making questionable decisions including giving the away side two red cards.

Zhokinyi and the now Sweden-based Archford Gutu were “suspiciously” red-carded as Dynamos crashed out of the tournament.

The memories of that match yesterday revisited the Dynamos camp as Caf announced that the two players would be suspended for the early stages of this year’s Champions League.

Hard hit by the decision is Zhokinyi who has been given a four-match ban, while Gutu, who will not be affected by the decision anyway, was handed a two-match ban.

That means Zhokinyi will miss his team’s Caf Champions League first and second round fixtures, starting with the first round first leg away match to Liga Muçulmana.

Dynamos coach Calisto Pasuwa yesterday named his final 18-man travelling squad without his trusted defender.

In his place came the raw Patson Jaure, who has been promoted from the juniors.

Dynamos final 18 squad: W Arubi, G Chigova, D Kutyauripo, T Mamvura, A Mbara, O Mushure, G Magariro, P Jaure, G Bello, L Kurauzvione, D Chafa, M Makopa, T Muparati, D Mukamba, M Murape, M Vengesai, R Mutuma, T Chinyama
