Freddy Gwala to perform in Gweru

-

South African musician Freddy Gwala is expected to perform at Midlands Hotel in Gweru on March 31 as part of a tour that will see him staging two shows in Harare.

Gwala is expected in the country on March 28 and will hold his first show at City Sports Bar in the capital on March 30. His last gig will be a family show at Richwood Sports Club in Mabelreign on April 1.

Organisers of the show said they had decided to take the musician to Gweru, which rarely hosts international musicians, to give music fans in the city a chance to see the yesteryear music star in action.

“Harare hosts international musicians almost every month and we felt we could also give music fans outside the capital time to celebrate arts and creativity with a musician from outside the country,” said show organiser Biggie Chinoperekwei.

“Initially we had only booked him for Harare shows, but the Gweru gig will be an outreach affair and Gwala will perform without supporting acts in the City of Progress.”

At his first show the Amadamara hit-maker will share the stage with Banyana Bafana while at Richwood he will perform with Oliver Mtukudzi.
Fast-rising local musician Jah Prayzah will feature at both shows.

Jah Prayzah (real name Mukudzei Mukombe) said he was looking forward to two shows with Gwala promising to complement the South African musician in an emphatic way.

“My music appeals to the young at heart while Gwala’s following locally is largely made of mature fans and I believe the combination will balance age groups that are likely to attend the show. With Mtukudzi spicing the gig with his solo act, the show promises to be a memorable event,” said Jah Prayzah.

Jah Prayzah is riding high with songs Gochi Gochi, Sungano and Sorry Mama. Gwala, who has released 12 albums, amassed popularity in the country through hits that include Ngixoleleni and Amadamara. He plays Zumba music , which he originated through fusion of soul and disco
