JOHANNESBURG — Safa’s director of communications Dominic Chimavi has revealed the football body will decide on the host cities for the 2013 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) on March 26.

Safa will make the decision after a critical scrutiny of the various bids from cities are hoping to host some of the matches of the continental showcase.

“All the candidates of the host cities are going to come and present their bids on the March 23,” says Chimavi.

“The final decision will be made three days later. On April 4 we will have the official launch which will be attended by government officials and football stakeholders,” he adds.

Chimavi added decision regarding cities participating teams will be based in will be determined by the geographical proximity of the countries that would have qualified for the tournament.

South Africa will use up to seven stadiums for the 2013 Afcon, with only four stadiums being used for all group matches.

Mvuzo Mbebe, the CEO of the 2013 Afcon, said they were only considering stadiums that hosted the World Cup in 2010 for now. —Kickoff
