KADOMA — A Sanyati woman in a polygamous marriage is battling for life at a Harare hospital after she was struck with a hoe in the head by the other wife for allegedly watering her garden with bathing water early this month.

It is alleged the accused, Wadzanai Dube (27), and the complainant, Kudzai Dube (28), who are both married to Phineas Mungazimbi had an altercation after Kudzai poured water that she had used to bath in, into Wadzanai’s garden.

This reportedly did not go down well with Wadzanai who took a hoe and struck the complainant in the head, resulting in her sustaining a deep cut.

The husband allegedly failed to report the attack to the police because accused’s parents threatened to assault him if he did so.

Not to be outdone, complainant’s parents reportedly threatened to assault Mungazimbe if he did not report.

Fearing for his life the husband then went and made a formal report to the police on March 14, nine days after the attack.

Complainant, who had reportedly received no treatment because there was no police report, was then ferried to Kadoma hospital and was later transferred to Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare as her condition was reported to be serious.

Mashonaland West Provincial Police Spokesperson Clemence Mabgweazara urged members of the public to solve family issues amicably to prevent possible loss of lives.

“We call upon all members of society to approach elders in family matters so that the issues can be solved amicably to prevent loss of life.

“The police are keen to interview the accused who is believed to have fled to Gokwe. The long arm of the law will soon catch up with her to answer to the charges,” said Mabgweazara. The incident happened on March 5.
