Rocked by a string of poor results last season, Masvingo based cricket franchise, Southern Rocks, say they are eyeing more experienced players to compliment their squad next season.

Southern Rocks chief executive officer Givemore Makoni told NewsDay Sport in an interview yesterday that they are set to sign Prosper Utseya, Elton Chigumbura and other top players to complement other big names like Tatenda Taibu, Tinashe Panyangara and award-winning Brian Vitori.

“We performed dismally last season. We had an inexperienced side as main players like Taibu only played two games while Vitori failed to play in any domestic game. Chamu Chibhabha was stung by a series of injuries.

“This left the young squad holding on its own. “But we are set to sign more top players like Chigumbura and Utseya to make the team star-studded.

“We have held talks and what is left is just to tie up the loose ends. A lot more big names should be coming down to Masvingo after they also indicated interest. Hopefully, we will be having a better team,” Makoni said.
