A Bulawayo man who bashed his wife using a bicycle chain, belt, clenched fists and a stick was lucky to get away with a non-custodial sentence when he appeared in court last week.

Tadious Makufa (34) of Sauerstown was slapped with a wholly suspended six-month jail term following his conviction on domestic violence charges.

The court heard that on January 21 at around 2pm, Makufa had a domestic dispute with his wife Paulin Nedi also aged 34. The dispute was centred on a court protection order the wife had obtained against Makufa.

He accused his wife of being a prostitute and went on to assault her. Nedi sustained injuries all over the body as a result of the assault. She later made a report to the police, leading to Makufa’s arrest.
