Cabinet has agreed that the constitution-making process is irreversible and those who are saying it must be abandoned are just politicking, a minister has said.

Constitutional and Parliamentary Affairs minister Eric Matinenga yesterday told journalists that some political parties were behind the leaks on the draft constitution to make sure their views prevailed.

He said the earliest a referendum could be held was in August or September 2012.

“It is unrealistic to say we can now go for elections after a referendum because there are other issues before we go for elections like the voters’ roll and the delimitation exercise,” he said.

Zanu PF officials, including Jonathan Moyo, want the constitution-making exercise abandoned claiming it has failed.
