Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) chief executive officer Karikoga Kaseke has taken a swipe at organisers of this years edition of Miss Zimbabwe for unprofessionally handling the pageant.

Speaking at Press conference on Tuesday Kaseke said Miss Zimbabwe Trust was failing to get sponsorship because of lack of serious approach.

If those people are serious about getting sponsorship they should seriously engage potential sponsors.

I heard they put papers on tables for potential sponsors.

Honestly, if I am to give them my $100 000 or more will I take that paper? They must do it formerly; write a letter or come in person, said Kaseke.

He also blasted the trust for poorly treating models. I have also been told that they wanted to take the models to some rural area and they booked them at a certain cheap lodge.

You cannot house potential national queens at a lodge infested with prostitutes.

Kaseke said he was aware of gripping financial challenges that the new organisers contracted by Miss Zimbabwe Trust were facing and would be happy to assist.

We are not going to seek relevance with this project. We have no regrets for our involvement in the past six years, but instead we are proud of our achievements, he said.

We managed to run that pageant at a period when many organisations were not able to raise even $1 000.

It is almost the same situation now. Organisers are failing to find sponsors.

If they come to us for help we will assist in any way possible.

He said his organisation was not prepared to see the pageant die, but pointed it was too late to be directly involved in organising this years edition.

If they need assistance we can give it to them. We will not be involved in the organisation since we were not there when they staged their regional finals so the concept might be different, but we will give them the people who can do it for them, said Kaseke.

ZTA have been the organiser and financier of the pageant for the past six years before they handed over responsibilities to back to Miss Zimbabwe Trust.

This years contest will be held on March 23 when reigning queen Malaika Mushandu will crown her successor.
