Shabanie Mine coach Luke Masomere will have a chance to look at his new recruits playing against a more formidable side when the Chinda Boys take on reigning Premier Soccer League champions Dynamos in a friendly match at Maglas Stadium on Sunday.

The match would be the asbestos miners’ first pre-season warm-up game against a top-flight team. They will plunge into the sparring ring straight from a 10-day training camp which ended last Sunday.

Masomere said opponents like Dynamos would provide them full assessment of the club’s new players.

“I was talking to Callisto Pasuwa last night (Wednesday) and he requested for a friendly match against us. I said why not? Dynamos are our brothers after all, so they will be coming to Zvishavane on Sunday. Definitely the match will help me take a closer look at the team I have assembled,” said Masomere.

The Shabanie technical team which comprises Arnold Jani and Elvis Muuya has already compiled a list of the final 30-man squad which they have forwarded to club executive for approval.

The squad, which will be officially announced today, is expected to feature club returnee Philip Sithole, veteran goalkeeper Lovemore Makwavarara, Erea Phiri and John Kapenya, among relatively unknown players.

The FC Platinum duo of Nelson Mazivisa and Francis Kanda who were loaned to other clubs last season will be joined at Maglas Stadium by Ray Sibanda.

“We have been having good preparations this pre-season. We have managed to come up with a better team. It might not be the best in the land like Dynamos, FC Platinum or Hwange, but it is good enough to compete against these sides. We crafted the team in the hope of having a far much improved season than last year where we fought relegation,” Masomere said.

Meanwhile, FC Platinum will have their final warm-up game before they embark on their maiden African Champions League expedition when they play Black Mambas at Rufaro Stadium tomorrow.

Coach Rahman Gumbo will test his combinations ahead of the away Champions League preliminary round match against Green Mamba of Swaziland at Somhlolo Stadium the next Sunday.
