Warriors striker Knowledge Musona’s German Bundesliga football side Hoffenheim 1899 have fired their coach Holger Stanislawski following their German Cup exit at home to SpVgg Greuther Fürth on Wednesday night.

The top-flight side was humbled in a game where Musona and fellow strikers Ryan Babel and Sejad Salihovic were dropped.

According to the club’s official website, it was agreed yesterday morning, by the coach and the club’s management, in consultation with 1899’s partners and advisory board, that Stanislawski’s contract be terminated.

His deal was due to run until June 2014. Manager Ernst Tanner issued a statement on the club website:

“We value Holger Stanislawski as both a person and a competent coach. But after lengthy and constructive discussion with him, we have come to the view that it is best for everyone involved to bring the current situation to an end. Recent developments within the team have certainly been a factor in our decision.”

Hoffenheim, in eighth position with 24 points from 20 games, had managed just one win in their previous 10 games.

Musona, who is under contract until June 30, 2016, has played 11 games, but is yet to score in the league. His only goal came in a German Cup match in which they won 2-1 against FC Cologne.

A new set-up might present him with a chance to get back to his scoring best ahead of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers that begin later this year.
